About

Melanie's research and scholarly work is focused in the areas of adult developmental education (particularly mathematics), thinking styles, program theory, evaluation, leadership, improvement of college/university teaching, and female college and university presidents.

Jones consults in the area of program/curriculum design by using a method based on program theory to create sustainable and pertinent programs in the education, community, and business sectors.

Her 2006 dissertation, Thinking Styles of Female College and University Presidents: A National Study, included responses from 62% of all female presidents in the United States. The study focused on identifying the style, and then making connections among leadership, communication, and management approaches used by these women in higher education.

Jones currently teaches graduate courses in Program/Curriculum Design & Evaluation, Educational Research (quantitative & qualitative), Principles of Adult & Higher Education, Seminar in Adult Education, and Developmental Education for Adult Students. She has served as an adjunct instructor in developmental mathematics for 10 years, and is active in many professional academic organizations.

Scholarly works include presentation at regional, national & international refereed conferences, refereed journal publications, and a chapter on Assessment & Evaluation in the 2010 Handbook of Adult & Continuing Education.

Feel free to make contact if you are interested in any current works, or would like to consider collaboration on a project. She is also available to serve as an external member of thesis or dissertation committees which are in her general interest areas.
